November 2019 - Regional Perspectives: Europe and North America
Welcome to the November edition of our monthly newsletter!
Countries in Europe and North America are currently dealing with challenges related to globalisation, changes in the world of work, aging populations, and migration. Social protection is increasingly playing a key role in supporting governments to overcome these and other challenges.
When social protection systems work well, they can also have a stabilising effect on the economy, protecting living standards and providing social security for all. This month the ILO Global Social Protection Week will discuss these issues and provide a roadmap for the future of social protection. The event will take place in Geneva and will also be livestreamed on socialprotection.org.
We hope you enjoy browsing the latest content on social protection in Europe and North America, as well as other highlights of this month.
The ILO is organising a Global Social Protection Week, which will be held at the ILO headquarters in Geneva from 25 to 28 November 2019. With the theme of "Achieving SDG 1.3 and Universal Social Protection (USP2030) in the Context of the Future of Work", the event starts with a two-day High-Level Conference, followed by a two-day Technical Segment.
Just last week, Valérie Schmitt, Christina Behrendt, and Victoria Giroud-Castiella have joined us for a webinar to present the programme of the ILO Global Social Protection Week. Watch the session's recording to learn more:
