Since its inception in 2017, the TRANSFORM initiative on leadership and management of social protection floors in Africa, has contributed to a mind-shift in the way social protection systems are conceived and managed, with visible results in areas of coordination, accountability and service delivery.

As countries in the African region continue to engage in the reform and enhancement of social protection systems, the demand for capacity development on mechanisms that address different vulnerabilities across the lifecycle has grown. Recognizing this need, the TRANSFORM Advisory Group recommended the revision of its learning modules with explicit focus on gender-responsive and disability-inclusive social protection systems, ensuring that practitioners are capacitated with inclusive social protection principles.

In 2022, the TRANSFORM initiative for social protection leadership and capacity building sought to update and enhance the training curriculum for the Introductory Training course to include best practices on improving inclusivity in social protection systems. With the support of the UNICEF Eastern and Southern Africa Office, PRESTOa policy analysis and research firm which includes leading experts on inclusive social protection, was engaged to undertake a revision of the Introductory TRANSFORM course materials.

This webinar, organized by the TRANSFORM Hub with socialprotection.org, marked the formal launch of the enhanced course materials, and aimed to give stakeholders a view of the improvements they can expect in the new curriculum, with the objective to ensure wide dissemination among social protection practitioners in Africa and provide and essential resource for their ongoing work. Experts offered reflections on the state of inclusive social protection systems in Africa, raising awareness of the importance of these revamped materials.
