Shock-Responsive and Adaptive Social Protection: What has COVID-19 taught us?

The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed and exacerbated the inequalities and existing fragilities within society. The multi-dimensional consequences result from the cascading and interacting shocks created by this crisis, with many social and economic impacts accelerated and intensified by the national and global policy responses. Adaptive social protection systems have never been more critical to address the severe long-term implications for people and their livelihoods. Appropriate and effective social protection responses offer the opportunity for governments to tackle the medium-to-long term risks while channelling the powerful force of crisis into shaping social norms for the better.

In this first global webinar in this series hosted by the Economic Policy Research Institute (EPRI), we delve deeper into the importance of adaptive social protection measures and how these can effectively address the medium- and long-term impacts of the pandemic. The webinar will also focus on the importance of inter-sectoral collaboration drawing from world-wide examples and the best practices which have helped in addressing the crisis.
