Report Launch - Social Protection for the Informal Economy: Operational Lessons for Developing Countries in Africa and Beyond

You are invited to the launch of the World Bank Africa Regional Report on Social Protection for the Informal Economy: Operational Lessons for Developing Countries in Africa and Beyond. The report provides an overview of social protection instruments for different groups in the diverse informal economy and proposes innovative social insurance instruments to encourage the missed middle of social protection to save to build resilience to future shocks. It presents guidance on how these schemes can be integrated into the overall social protection systems including at the operational level to provide a continuum of social protection. It also includes the first ever compilation of country experiences in this emerging area of work. The messages and recommendations in the report aim to answer some of the questions policymakers face as they embark on creating the next generation of social protection programs and enabling systems, building on experience from the COVID-19 crisis.
