Welcome to the new edition of socialprotection.org’s newsletter!
This month’s newsletter is dedicated to World Refugee Day, which will be celebrated on 20 June. Highlighting the importance of the date and its links with social protection, we bring you selected publications about cash transfers
programmes and interventions aiming to protect people in refugee situations.
We would also like to seize this opportunity to invite you to participate in our brief Satisfaction Survey, which is open to all readers. It will only take 5 minutes and will help us improve the socialprotection.org platform.
Finally, we would like to present our new Virtual Campus area, which brings to you easier access to online courses and webinars!
This report was produced as part of an Overseas Development Institute (ODI) project looking at a cash transfer programme for Syrian refugees in Jordan. It assessed the effects of cash transfers on reducing barriers to accessing basic services and employment, as well as considering the long-term implications of improvements in economic and social outcomes.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Strategy introduces the overall strategic goal for cash-based interventions, sets out the strategic objectives and approaches, and the governance arrangements for implementation.
New Virtual Campus Feature
The socialprotection.org team is happy to introduce you to the new Virtual Campus area of the platform, where you can search through e-learning resources shared by members. These are classified by the following categories: self-paced courses, instructor-led courses and webinars. Please feel free to share your online course or webinar!
Continuing the GIZ-sponsored blog post series on Social Protection and Health, Knut Lönnroth makes the case for further improving linkages across health, social and labour sectors and increasing clarity on who is accountable for what, in the post “Social protection in times of ill health – who’s mandate?” co-written with Diana Weil and Delia Boccia.
In September 2015, we launched socialprotection.org as a member based online hub for global knowledge-sharing on social protection. In our first satisfaction survey, we would like to hear how you and your organization benefit from the platform and its services. Please help us improve socialprotection.org by answering this brief survey!
Innocenti Research Centre - UNICEF launched a call for papers aiming to assemble high quality papers that will increase the understanding of: 1) the role of social protection in fragile contexts and settings of forced displacement and migration; and 2) synergies across the humanitarian and development divide in both contexts.
