Description

The program takes up the principles of the 2030 Agenda (universality, indivisibility, leaving no one behind, participation and accountability) and acts in accordance with the Global Partnership for Universal Social Protection 2030 to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (USP2030). It supports the exchange of experiences, mutual learning and political participation of and between national partners and global actors on social protection topics. It also supports countries in designing innovations and incorporating the outputs (based on experiences and knowledge) into policy processes.

The program’s role is that of an intermediary, promoting adequate exchange formats and platforms cooperatively developed with partners. These exchange formats include in-person and virtual formats such as online communities, specialist events and conferences, workshops, learning forums, live streams and webinars. The content of these exchange formats consists of various facets of social protection, including adaptive social protection, beneficiary identification and registration, early childhood development, and economic inclusion. The GIZ program facilitates learning exchanges between partners on their respective social protection systems to enable partners to learn from one another and create national impacts in their respective social protection systems.

Global Alliances for Social Protection encompasses a multi-stakeholder approach and includes multiple actors in the implementation of its activities. National ministries and development agencies of participating countries are considered as the main partners of the program. The program also works closely with bilateral, regional and global German cooperation projects, regional institutions such as the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the African Union (AU) and global partners such as the World Bank Group’s Global Practice Social Protection and Jobs and the International Policy Centre for Inclusive Growth (IPC-IG) through www.socialprotection.org.
