WFP’s support to strengthening the national social protection system in Ghana

This case study reviews the role of WFP in supporting the national social protection system in Ghana over the last decade (2014-2023), including support to the national school feeding programme since 2006. It assesses how WFP has supported the building blocks of Ghana’s national social protection system at large, including on non-contributory social assistance as the Government’s main mechanism for supporting people living in poverty and situations of vulnerability. The case study represents a lighttouch exercise, undertaken through a rapid literature review and interviews with WFP personnel and other key stakeholders.
