Egypt’s social protection system has evolved in response to economic shifts, an emerging global narrative on protection and a documented and growing need. Drawing on Selwaness and Sholkamy (2024), this brief summarizes trends in households’ access to different governmental social protection programs using nationally representative data from the Egypt Labor Market Panel Surveys (ELMPS) between 2006 and 2023 (OAMDI, 2016, 2019, 2020, 2024).
