Leveraging the Social Protection System for Humanitarian Cash Programmes in Ukraine
The Ukraine Humanitarian and Social Protection Nexus Forum held in August 2024 and organised by the PeReHID Initiative’s Technical Assistance Facility, UNICEF, and Collaborative Cash Delivery Network focused on leveraging Ukraine’s social protection system to enhance humanitarian cash programmes. The forum brought together experts from UNICEF, WFP, UNHCR, and the Ukrainian Red Cross Society to present their strategies for leveraging the social protection system for humanitarian cash transfers. The discussion highlighted the importance of “top-ups” to expand social assistance programmes, ensuring efficient and dignified support to vulnerable populations affected by the ongoing conflict. The forum underscored the need for robust data sharing, legal frameworks, and coordination to optimise aid delivery and strengthen national capacities.
