This paper uses nationally representative household- and individual-level data for Egypt, Jordan and Tunisia, with data taken from the Egypt Labor Market Panel Survey (ELMPS),7 the Jordan Labor Market Panel Survey (JLMPS)8 and the Tunisia Labor Market Panel Survey (TLMPS),9 respectively. The middle class is defined in terms of position in the labour market, according to occupation and employment status, following the methodology outlined in working paper No. 1. Chapter 2 of this report presents key findings on coverage patterns among middle- class households relative to other classes for the four social protection indicators.
