As part of the efforts of African countries to improve the social security coverage of their populations, the diversity of the continent’s social protection mechanisms is an opportunity says the ISSA. But the longerterm goal must remain the development of integrated and comprehensive national social security systems anchored on an appropriate role for contributions-based financing.
