Social Protection Interventions Targeting Children in East and Southern Africa during COVID-19: Cases from Selected Countries

There are several reasons why ESA countries must expand their current social protection programmes to their citizens after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. These relate mainly to the magnitude of the health crisis and response measures adopted. Against the above background, the Africa Platform for Social Protection (APSP), with the support from Save the Children International (SCI), commissioned the emerging-issues research to generate evidence for Child Sensitive Social Protection (CSSP) programming in East and Southern Africa in the context of COVID 19. The research aims at identifying good practice in child-sensitive social protection. Moreover, to identify emerging opportunities, document lessons learnt, identify barriers and gaps, and make recommendations to inform programs and policies.
