Extending social security to self-employed workers: Lessons from international experience
It is clear that the extension of social protection coverage to self-employed workers, including own-account workers, is crucial and decisive to the attainment of sustainable development and social inclusion. Based on a more comprehensive publication (ILO 2019b), this policy brief stresses specific challenges that hinder the extension of social security to self-employed workers and explores some policy options, based on international experience and guided by ILO social security standards.
