The programme Jóvenes en Acción was created in 2001 at the same time than Familias en Acción and was initially denominated Labour Training for Young Unemployed with Law Incomes (Capacitación laboral de jóvenes desempleados de bajos recursos). It is oriented to improve the possibilities of labour and social insertion of the young persons between 18 and 25 years unemployed of the levels 1-2 of the Beneficiary system (Sistema de beneficiarios- SISBEN ) through capacitation courses for semi-qualified jobs, and internship in companies.
i) Labour training course (curso de formación Laboral): Lecture courses of three months (60 days) with 360 hours de duration. During this period, the youths receive a capacitation for a specific job by the Capacitation Entities (Entidades de Capacitación, ECAP), that develop transversal skills for labour such as: deduction and analysis skills, daily life problems resolution, responsible decision taking, skills for team work, skill for acceeding to information systems, for oral and writing communication, discipline habits in job. The practical phase lasts tree months and is realized in legal companies. the beneficiaries receive a monetary transfer conditioned to the assistance at courses. ii) Life skills (Habilidades para la vida): Recreative workshop through varied implementation methodologies in articulation with the National Service of Learning (Servicio Nacional de Aprendizaje, SENA) or terciary education institutions that has a convention with the Department for Social Prosperity (DPS).

i) Life skills (Habilidades para la vida): The participation of the beneficiary to the activities is not a condition that will be verified in a periodic way to deliver the economic incentive, but it is a condition of their permanency in the programme

Targeting and eligiblity
Young people between 18-25 years unemployed of the levels 1 and 2 of the SISBEN; beneficiaries of the programme Red Unidos; displaced; indigenous peoples; or young people with protection measures from the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare (Instituto Colombiano de Bienestar Familiar, ICBF).
