Programme Details

Programme objectives
It consists in a non-contributory pension which guarantees the right to a minimum wage established in the 1988 Constitution and regulated by the Organic Law of Social Assistance (LOAS). The amount of the transfer is equivalent to a monthly minimum wage per adult (BRL 1.412, 2024).

i) Continuous Benefit Programme (Benefício de Prestação Continuada) ii) Moreover, BPC beneficiaries can access to Social Rate of Electric Energy (Tarifa Social de Enrgia Elétrica), another social protection programme.

Targeting and eligiblity

Eligibility criteria
Elderly (65 years or older) without pensions or people with long-term disabilities (minimum 2 years) of any age with a houlsehold income equal to or less than 1/4 of the minimum wage. Welfare Benefit Request Form. Registration of candidates in the offices of the INSS (National Social Security Institute).
Eligibility reassessment (if any)
The situation of the recipient is reviewed every 2 years, the pension is not transferable (non-heritable). This benefit can not be accumulated with any other area of ​​social security or other scheme, except the medical attendance. Suspension in case of transfer the benefit to a third party.
