Programme objectives

To promote the inclusion into the formal labour market of adolescents and young people between 16 and 25 years old of urban and rural areas, in situations of poverty, extreme poverty and unemployment, through temporary employment as apprentices. The programme has a total duration of eight months and is divided into two phases: 1) Training of 5 hours a week for a maximum of 60 hours and 2) internship in the assigned company. If the participant complies satisfactory with established co-responsibilities, the Ministry of Social Development provides him/her 800 quetzals and the employer will make a payment equivalent to 50% of the current minimum wage plus an incentive bonus of 250 quetzals.

Programme components
i) Training: The Technical Institute of Productive Training -INTECAP- provides training to programme participants. The training consists of 5 hours a week for a maximum period of 60 hours during the first phase of the Programme, being an indispensable requirement for the young apprentice to be certified. ii) Professional internship: In order to learn a trade, the participant will carry out an internship in an assigned company for 35 hours a week.
