One-third of domestic workers are still not registered for UIF

By law, all employees who work 24 hours or more per month are entitled to unemployment insurance. But more than 300 000 domestic workers are not registered, meaning they will not be paid out if they lose their jobs. Employers are required to register domestic workers with the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF). One-third of domestic workers who are entitled to unemployment insurance, and who may be entitled to maternity benefits, are not registered.
