Regional Learning event in LAC: Linking cash and voucher assistance with social protection systems

The event will have simultaneous translation from Spanish to English and English to Spanish.

We are pleased to invite you to participate in the Regional Learning Event on the role of the social protection system in responding to a humanitarian crisis with cash transfer programs.

In order to continue strengthening the dialogue between humanitarian and social protection actors, the REDLAC Group in collaboration with the Cash Working Group - R4V is organizing a regional learning event "Linking Cash and Voucher Assistance with Social Protection Systems" to be held during the month of July, 2023.

This is a second edition of the event held by REDLAC in May 2021, which provided a space for dialogue, exchange of experiences and learning for more than 450 participants working with cash transfer and social protection programs in Latin America and the Caribbean. The event featured more than 20 panelists and facilitators, including representatives from the governments of the Dominican Republic, Peru, Guatemala, Dominica, and El Salvador, as well as from United Nations agencies, the International Red Cross Movement, international NGOs and civil society organizations.

The objective of the second edition is to strengthen the basic understanding of the key concepts of the role of the social protection system when responding to a humanitarian crisis with cash and voucher assistance.

On this occasion, the space will have three building blocks throughout the month of July that seek to:

  • accompany the participant through a learning journey that facilitates that the information shared and/or knowledge acquired is gradual throughout the event.
  • provide an online space to exchange good practices, challenges and lessons learned from experiences in (and outside) the region.
  • interact with the audience to build a dialogue among stakeholders and identify action points for 2023/4 to strengthen the linkages between CVA and social protection systems.

The event is structured along the following dates and times from July 06th to 20th, 2023.

  • First building block: Thursday, July 6 - 10:00 - 12:00 (PTY)
  • Second building block: Thursday, July 13 - 10:00 - 12:00 (PTY)
  • Third building block: Thursday, July 20 - 10:00 - 12:00 (PTY)

The event will have simultaneous translation in Spanish and English.

1.      What does each building block consist of?

The event has been designed to provide participants with an organized learning journey through the different stages of the crisis response cycle. That is, the role of social protection and its links with CVA during the "before, during, after and recovery" of the crisis.

  • Building block 1 will facilitate a dialogue, exchange of experiences and concepts on initiatives that can contribute to a crisis response that can prevent, mitigate, prepare, anticipate, and warn through the strengthening of social protection systems and their link with CVA.
  • Building block 2 will focus on early actions and the response of social protection systems to respond to the crisis.
  • Building block 3 aims at a better understanding of the role in the recovery phase, long-term needs, and learning.
