Making growth work for the poor

Live event: Sustained economic growth is a necessary condition for ending poverty and boosting shared prosperity – but not a sufficient one. In some countries, growth has helped lift millions out of poverty, while in others, growth has not translated into gains for the poor. Including wide segments of society in the benefits of growth, such as women and traditionally excluded populations, requires policies from improving human capital and productivity to harnessing digital technology and increasing private sector investment. The panel will address the questions of what can be done to boost growth at a time that both growth and poverty reduction are slowing down; what it takes to make growth inclusive; and what we have learned since the 2008 financial crisis. Through a range of perspectives, this event will help policymakers shape their agendas to benefit the poor.
