The IPCC Assessment Report 6 highlights the importance of inclusivity for fostering sustainable, climate resilient development. Social protection programmes are recognized as a powerful tool for enabling vulnerable and marginalized populations— including people living in poverty, women, and youths— to benefit from and participate in global climate actions.
This event brings together policy-makers, practitioners, and researchers for an interactive dialogue on how and why social protection can be leveraged to make climate actions in agrifood systems more inclusive and effective. It will provide a forum to share recent evidence on the impacts of social protection on building adaptive capacity in rural areas. Through the event, speakers from national government and international agencies will also share experiences and lessons learned on how to integrate social protection into national climate strategies, and how to target and design these programmes to support just transition in the agricultural sector.
