CSW66 Side Event: Empower to Adapt - Building Women and Girls’ Resilience through Social Protection

Women and girls are disproportionately impacted by climate change, and often face social, economic and political barriers that limit their ability to cope with shocks. Social protection can empower women and communities to adapt to climate change and accelerate the transition to a green economy. This event will showcase how social protection can empower women to build climate resilience by strengthening and diversifying livelihoods, preventing poor coping decisions, and enhancing agency and wellbeing. It will also discuss operational linkages between gender, social protection and climate policy. A fireside chat between UNICEF’s Executive Director and a youth activist will set the scene, followed by a panel discussion showcasing good practice from Fiji, Niger and St. Lucia.
