A Call to Action for G20 Countries: Adaptive Social Protection (ASP) for Building Resilience and Protecting Human Capital
Within this pandemic context, social protection has become a critical pillar of immediate national responses to the socio- economic impacts of this health crisis and should remain at the centre of our collective inclusive recovery efforts. At the same time, these responses also highlighted critical gaps that remain ingrained in social protection systems in terms of coverage, inclusion and the ability of such systems to effectively anticipate, prepare for and respond to crises in a timely manner. Therefore, building and strengthening Adaptive Social Protection systems is a critical priority to proactively address the increasing likelihood of future covariate shocks induced by natural disasters/climate change, economic downturns, disease outbreaks and political conflicts.
