Government responses to COVID-19 crisis: Specific government responses

From late March to end April 2020, WIEGO tracked how governments were addressing the urgent needs of informal workers during this health and economic crisis.  The World Bank identified 133 countries that, by mid-April, had created or expanded social protection or jobs measures to help address the economic emergency. Through our analysis, we learned that even where governments designed packages with informal workers in mind, the promised aid could be inadequate, or problems with identifying and registering informal workers could impede distribution. Some government measures were developed in response to advocacy and demands from informal workers' organizations and their allies.
