On 29 March 2022, members of the Global Partnership for Universal Social Protection to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (USP2030) and interested partners gathered for the third annual USP2030 Membership Assembly. As a worldwide alliance that brings together governments, international and regional organizations, social partners and civil society organizations, these assemblies provide an important opportunity to jointly reflect on key developments related to social protection and USP2030 in the past year, and what they mean for the partnership’s future work. Roughly one year ago, on the 2nd of March 2021, members and interested partners came together for the 2nd Membership Assembly of the Global Partnership for Universal Social Protection (USP2030) , a worldwide alliance bringing together governments, international and regional organisations, social partners and civil society organisations, in a shared commitment towards ensuring social protection for all, as stated in the partnership’s Call to Action . COVID-19 has shown, once more, the vital importance of solidarity – the very spirit of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development – including the urgency of achieving universal social protection for all human beings, no matter who or where they are. Universal social protection is a human right and key to recovery, for a green transition and for sustainable and inclusive economic and social development for individuals, communities and nations.
