Research Officer, Social Development

MS. Mehrin Karim finished her bachelor’s in science in Economics from North South University Bangladesh.. She pursued her Master of Arts in Economics from State University of New York(SUNY) at Buffalo graduating in 2011. She then desired to contribute to the development of her country and returned back in Bangladesh and joined as a Senior Research Associate in one of the leading think tanks Policy Research Institute (PRI)where she worked with renowned economists. Ms. Mehrin worked on key government policy documents such as 7th Five year plan,Delta plan,etc. She also has expertise in working various fields such as climate change ,trade, social protection. Ms. Karim has also attended various scholarships trainings in countries such as Belgium, Sweden, Nepal, India, and Thailand on a variety of macroeconomic issues such as children's rights, trade facilitation, and capital markets.She is currently working as a Research Officer in UNDP -Bangladesh in Social Protection Policy Support Project as A Research Officer. She is providing technical support in implementation of the National Social Security Strategy (NSSS) . The life cycle strategy under the NSSS is aimed towards creating an inclusive social security system that would effectively tackle poverty and inequality, and take forward human development, employment creation, and economic growth covering all the SDGs esp SDG 1 ,8,10. She is also extensively working on rights of person with disabilities where she coordinated with other Organization of Person with Disabilities(OPDs) to hold series of workshops and seminars attended by senior officials of government. Her research paper Situation Analysis of persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Bangladesh was published as a key research document from General Economics Division(GED).
Aside from her professional life, Ms.Karim is an animal lover, enjoys traveling,reading books and enjoys playing sports such as basketball, table tennis, and handball.
