Having already supported response planning in over 20 countries over the last 6 weeks, SPACE is now extending its support to governments to think through how to maintain or adapt existing systems and programmes to meet rapidly growing needs. Through a multi-disciplinary “ask-the-experts” service, SPACE provides a sounding board to plan, challenge, and innovate COVID-19 responses. Advice is independent and unbiased, practical and actionable - drawing upon up-to-date global evidence, relevant experience, tailor-made tools, and a suite of thematic briefing papers to support effective and inclusive decision-making.
SPACE provides leading expertise related to social protection and humanitarian assistance, in the fields of:
- Shock-responsive social protection, including social insurance;
- Humanitarian cash;
- SP linkages to labour markets and informal workers;
- Economics, financial services, & risk financing;
- Mobile & digital technologies for delivery of cash;
- Gender and Inclusion; and
- Humanitarian and social protection nexus.
How does it work?
After clarifying your key issues, a two-hour call with a team of experts will be held, which will also include a written summary note, recommendations, and follow-up e-mail exchanges. Afterwards, further dedicated expert support can be accessed to provide additional in-depth analysis or more detailed technical recommendations on key issues, where needed.
Who can access SPACE support?
A request to engage with SPACE can be made directly by representatives of relevant ministries or via humanitarian and development partners (INGOs, UN, donors). For the SPACE advice itself, it will be required to have representatives of relevant ministries participating who have a remit to take decisions on social protection responses to COVID-19. The request form itself will prompt for specifics on the working groups you represent and the other ministerial actors or partners you plan on bringing into SPACE calls and follow-up engagement.
