The European Commission invites all members of the online community Social Protection in Crisis Contexts to access its community page on Social Protection across the Development-Humanitarian Nexus (SPaN).
This community page was created to share the knowledge material produced as part of the Guidance Package. It is the outcome of the SPaN initiative which is jointly lead by three Directorates General (DG) of the European Commission: DG for International Cooperation and Development (DEVCO), DG for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) and the DG for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (NEAR).
The Guidance Package and community page aim to enhance knowledge on social protection as an effective short and long-term response to multivariate shocks, protracted crises and displacement.
This space has been designed to progressively build the knowledge base around the nexus between development cooperation and humanitarian assistance. Community members can access the most recent knowledge materials, including a forthcoming reference document titled "Social Protection across the Humanitarian-Development Nexus. A game changer in supporting people through crises".
Members can:
- Obtain reference documents and peer-reviewed technical, sectoral and contextual notes contributing to a better understanding of how humanitarian action and social protection can be convergent and mutually supportive;
- Retrieve European Commission policy frameworks, articles and publications addressing shock-responsive social protection, as well as lessons learned through country and project case studies;
