Egypt is the most populous country of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, and the third most populous in Africa, with an estimated 92.1 million people as of 2017. In 2016, the economy grew by more than 4%; one of the highest rates in the region. Businesses are growing and foreign investments are rising. In terms of human development, the past two decades showed mixed progress. This country profile was produced as background material for the conference. The country profile reflects a collective effort by UN agencies at country level to represent the country situation as of September 2017.
