UNICEF, in partnership with the European Union, FAO, Finland, Germany, SIDA, UK aid, UNHCR, WFP and the World Bank, organised an International Conference on Social Protection in Contexts of Fragility and Forced Displacement in September 2017.

Purpose of conference: Social protection measures are increasingly being deployed to mitigate the impact of protracted crises and forced displacement on affected families, children and communities. While promising, such efforts are relatively new, and documentation of good practice is limited. Policy makers from affected countries, as well as development and humanitarian partners, researchers and civil society organisations could all benefit from sharing current research, best practices and lessons emerging from ongoing experience. This conference brings together 25 priority countries, the international community and researchers to learn from existing evidence, share experience and consider new ways to utilise social protection systems in crises. The issues explored during this two-day meeting will support practical efforts to meet World Humanitarian Summit commitments to expand social protection systems during crises, improve linkages between development and humanitarian work, strengthen humanitarian-development nexus and build the resilience of both systems and communities.
