August 2019 - Regional Perspectives: Central Asia and East Asia and Pacific
Welcome to the August edition of our monthly newsletter!
Over the past few years, many developing countries across Central and East Asia and the Pacific have expanded their social protection programmes, helping improve the livelihoods of poor and vulnerable people. However, the region still faces considerable challenges, particularly in the sustainable financing needed for local welfare programmes.
The main challenges and opportunities related to the expansion of social protection, in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, will be discussed next month in the Asia-Pacific Social Protection Week 2019 (ASPS 2019): Securing the Future of Asia and the Pacific. The event will be livestreamed through socialprotection.org. We hope you enjoy browsing through this issue’s regional highlighted content.
We also would like to invite you to participate in our 5-minute Satisfaction Survey: we highly value your feedback! And don’t miss the 4th run of e-TRANSFORM, an innovative training course on building and managing social protection floors in Africa.
The Social Protection for Employment – Community (SPEC) is updated regularly with content from webinars, livestreams and blog posts developed by SPEC, as well as links to the most recent studies and publications on social protection for employment. Become a member to gain access to this content and connect with fellow policymakers, practitioners, and researchers to exchange best practices and knowledge.
The Asia Pacific Social Protection Week 2019: Securing the Future of Asia and the Pacific will take place from 9 to 12 September this year, in Manila, Philippines. The event is organised by the Asian Development Bank and will be livestreamed through socialprotection.org. The link will be available soon on the page of the event. Stay tuned!
