Lectures: Why we need a social revolution to achieve the SDGs
The welfare state in the UK was revolutionary: it lifted thousands out of poverty, provided decent homes, good education and security. But it is out of kilter now: an elaborate and expensive system of managing needs and risks. Today we face new challenges. Our resources have changed.
In this Sussex Development Lecture, Hilary Cottam, discusses her new exciting and ambitious book ‘Radical Help’ which looks at how we can re-design a welfare state for this century. She will talk about how we will not meet SDG targets if we work in old ways and 20th century systems and mindsets.
Lecture will be streamed live to Facebook.
